The position of Village Attorney is unique to the Village of Port Chester. Unlike other villages in the State of New York, the Village Attorney is a full-time position, appointed by the Village Manager with a long term contract. The Village Attorney must have extensive municipal law experience, an appreciation for the diversity of the community and dedication to the public interest.
The Village Attorney is responsible to advise the Mayor, Board of Trustees, the Village Manager and all departments, boards and commissions of the Village. In addition, the Village Attorney prepares legislation, drafts and reviews contracts, renders opinions, drafts contracts, assists in negotiation collective bargaining negotiations and acts as counsel to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.
