Auxiliary Police. Drawn from the ranks of our citizens. Currently headed up by Port Chester Police Lieutenant Jeff Hartrey and Auxiliary Police Director George Colaluca these men and women give their time on a voluntary basis and after being trained and equipped assist the regular police in crowd control and traffic duties at community events. Their assistance is invaluable and these dedicated people give willingly of themselves on weekends and holidays. They will be found at scenes of natural disasters such as floods, snow and ice storms, heat wave blackout crisis as well as
man made problems such as assisting at fire scenes and major car accidents. A pistol permit is a requirement and Auxiliary Police must attend a modified version of the regular police academy held at night. Auxiliaries are required to qualify annually with their firearm and held to many of the same training requirements as police officers. They are a true asset to the department.
