1-How do I get a copy of a Birth or Death Certificate?
You can only obtain a copy of a birth or death certificate if you were born or died in Village of Port Chester. Please read the requirement below:
For birth certificate - By the State of New York Law only the person themselves (if over 18 years of age), the mother or father can obtain a copy of someone’s birth certificate. No husband, wife, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle or friends. If someone has legal custody, they must provide with documentation.
For death certificate – Must be mother, father, son, daughter, husband, wife or informant on the certificate. If you are the executor of an estate you must provide documentation or have your lawyer submit a letter explaining the legal reason.
Acceptable Identification – Driver’s license, Non-driver’s license, Passport, Military ID, Employer’s Photo ID, two utility bills showing applicant’s name and current address, Police report of lost or stolen ID. We will not issue a certificate unless one of the above types of identification is presented. NO EXCEPTIONS.

2-Where and how do I go for Genealogical Research?
For birth certificate over 75 years, and death at least 50 years.

3-How do I get a Marriage License?
The Village of Port Chester Clerk’s office does not issue marriage licenses. Please contact the Office of the Rye Town Clerk at 914-939-3570 or visit their website
4- How do I get a Dog License?
All dogs 4 months of age and older are to be licensed. Also any dog under 4 months of age at large must be licensed. If you reside in the Village of Port Chester you will need to come to the Clerk’s office with the following:
Dog’s identification, owner’s identification and rabies certification. Fees will be based on the type of license. For spayed/neutered, please make sure you bring certificates.
5-How do I get Hunting and Fishing license?
The Village of Port Chester Clerk’s office does not issue hunting and fishing licenses. Please contact the Office of the Rye Town Clerk at 914-939-3570 or visit their website
6-How do I file for an Alarm Permit?
If you own a residential or commercial property in the Village of Port Chester and currently have or plan to have an alarm system installed, you must register it with the Clerk’s office. You can download the form from our website, complete it and submit it to the office. The fee is $40 per calendar year, January 1st to December 31st and is renewable each January. Seniors are exempt on residential property.
7 – How do I apply for parking at the Metro North Train Station?
Parking for Metro North is handled by LAZ Parking. You may reach them at 888-682-7275.
8- How do I apply for a Municipal Parking Permit?
Decal parking is available in four (4) of the Village’s parking lots. The fee for the calendar year, January 1st to December 31st is $425.00. Please call the Clerk’s Office at 914-939-5226 for availability.
9 – How do I obtain a FOIL Form (Freedom of Information)?
The Request for Records Form can be downloaded from our website and either delivered to the Clerk’s Office or faxed to 914-305-2560. The “response shall be made no more than five (5) working days after receipt of this request by the agency or municipality, whether the request is oral or in writing”.
10 – How do I obtain a Handicap Parking Permit?
The Application for a Parking Permit for Persons with Severe Disabilities is available in the Clerk’s Office. This form must be completed and signed by your doctor and returned to our office in person with your NYS driver’s license or other proper identification if you do not possess a driver’s license.
11 – How do I get information on trash pick-up and recycling?
The Department of Public Works is located on Fox Island Road and can be reached by calling 914-939-5207. Rules and Regulations for Residential Trash Pick-Up and Recycling as well as the Sanitation Schedule was mailed to all residents and businesses in the Village. If you did not receive a copy, please call the Clerk’s Office.
12 – How do I contact the Village Court or pay for parking violations?

13 – How do I get a license to drive a taxi in Port Chester?
